SOAPSTONE SLABS

A sedimentary stone, soapstone slabs are ideal for kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities. Due to their darkness and texture, they create a highly stylized look for modern homes.

Extremely dense, soapstone slabs make for a durable, stain-resistant, and low-maintenance countertop.

Soapstone Countertop Advantages

A non-porous material, soapstone is both anti-bacterial and resistant to acids. Therefore, it's the perfect material for high moisture areas like kitchen or bathroom counters. As long as you keep the surface clean, you can easily place fresh produce on soapstone without fear of bacteria.

Additionally, soapstone countertops are more durable than most natural stones and do not easily crack.

They're also heat resistant, meaning you can place hot pots and pans on the counter with ease.

Soapstone Countertop Disadvantages

Despite its durability, soapstone is prone to scratching. Therefore, you should avoid placing sharp metal objects directly on its surface. However, scratches are easy to deal with. To remove any imperfections marring your surface, simply lightly sand the area.

Design

As a rare occurring natural stone, soapstone does have fewer color choices than other popular natural stones. However, its rich shades of black and gray create a naturally sophisticated atmosphere in any home.

Soapstone slabs are also customizable. If you want to mimic the natural aging process, you can periodically apply mineral oil to the surface to darken it. However, oiling is not required. The choice is left up to you!

Maintenance

Soapstone countertops are easy to maintain. To clean, use mild soap and a sponge or rag. We recommend avoiding harsher cleaners if you've applied mineral oil, as the chemicals can remove the finish.
